In commemoration of the International Day of Peace, which is observed around the world every 21 day of September, the Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA) today, 20th September organised a Peace Walk to celebrate the day.
The International Day of Peace is a United Nations General Assembly declaration, devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.
The theme for this year, “End racism. Build peace” supports the movement for equality and human rights with the promotion of anti-racism, in order to build a world where compassion and empathy overcome suspicion and hatred; a world we all can be proud of.
PPBA, alongside its partners, TearFund, CAFAD, Search For Common Grounds, RURCON, SUWA, DREP, JPRM, DIWA, MENSEN, WIC, FOMWAN and a host of other organizations celebrated this year's event, with a walk from Old Airport, to Secretariat Junction, in Jos, the Plateau State capital, where the Director General of the agency, Mr. Joelengs Joseph Lengmang led the procession.
We call on the beautiful people of Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole to join us in celebrating this day, as we walk towards building a better and peaceful Plateau that is free of racial, tribal and ethno-religious discrimination. Let us celebrate our shared and common humanity more than anything else.
We remain grateful to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Simon Bako Lalong and our partner, German International Cooperation, for their continuous support and encouragement.
